Kaya FC-Iloilo of the Philippines scored late to hold Islamic Republic of Iran’s Bam Khatoon FC to a 1-1 draw in their AFC Champions League™ 2024/25 Group C tie on Wednesday.

A first half goal from Zahra Ghanbari kept Bam Khatoon ahead until added but Joyce Onrubia equalised in the fourth minute of added time to take home a share of the spoils.

The result secured Kaya a second point while Bam Khatoon earned their first.

Bam Khatoon almost had a bright start as early as the second minute when Fatemeh Geraeli played the ball on for Mona Hamoudi, who did well to evade her marker on the turn but could only find the side netting.

Kaya came alive at the eight minute mark, almost taking the lead after Irish Navaja crossed the ball in for Julissa Cisneros whose close range effort was cleared by Bam Khatoon’s Mostafa Motevalli.
Bam Khatoon were nearly exposed again in the 13th minute when Charisa Lemoran attempted to find Cisneros in the box with a long-range cross, but goalkeeper Raha Yazdani reacted quickly to intercept the danger.

The Iranian side came close to finding the net 10 minutes later when Kaya failed to deal with a corner, leaving Ghanbari with a free header which was saved by keeper Inna Palacios, who stepped up again moments later to deny Negin Zand.
Kaya’s resistance was finally broken in the 39th minute when Anna Delos Reyes conceded a penalty after bringing down Mona Hamoudi, with Ghanbari slotting home.

Bam Khatoon started the second half aggressively, leaving Kaya to defend deep as Fatemeh Geraeli came close to doubling the Iranian side’s lead in the 53rd minute with her headed attempt just missing the target.

Hamoudi threatened two minutes later, forcing Palacios into a fine save before seeing her effort from outside the box foiled by the Kaya custodian.

Kaya were struggling to regain their first half rhythm with only Sarahgen Tyagi Tulabing making an attempt in the 71st minute which was comfortably saved by Yazdani.

However, Kaya did have the final say after Onrubia netted a late equaliser, turning in Anicka Castaneda’s pass from inside the box for a share of the spoils.

Bam Khatoon play College of Asian Scholars in their final match while Kaya face a tough encounter against Melbourne City of Australia, with both games on Saturday.
