An interim coach will be appointed to oversee China PR’s upcoming two friendly matches in the United States in December.
CFA said the termination decision was made after China PR failed to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In the AFC Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament – Asian Qualifiers Round 2 held earlier this month, China PR finished third in Group B behind DPR Korea and Korea Republic.

An opening 2-1 defeat to DPR Korea made it difficult before Shui led the team to a 3-0 victory over Thailand, however, a 1-1 draw with Korea Republic shut the door to the next stage of qualification.Shui was appointed as head coach in November 2021, and guided the Steel Roses to the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022™ title.

The 56-year-old former Chinese international then oversaw China PR’s participation in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 where they finished third in Group D behind England and Denmark.
