To mark the 20th FIFA Club World Cup™, FIFA is counting down to its kick-off by showcasing 20 of the greatest moments in the tournament’s history.
Saudi Arabia 2023 is just 15 days away.
Nicolas Anelka, Karim Benzema, Edmundo, Samuel Eto’o, Thierry Henry, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Lionel Messi, Raul, Romario, Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Alexis Sanchez, Fernando Torres, David Villa, Dwight Yorke… the FIFA Club World Cup™ had been graced by magnificent forwards galore heading into its 12th edition.
Not one of those greats had managed more than three goals in one instalment. Only one player, in fact, had. At UAE 2009, Brazilian striker Denilson scored four times in three outings for bronze-medallists Pohang Steelers.
That record didn’t appear under threat heading into the Japan 2015 semi-finals, but then Luis Saurez scored thrice inside 30 minutes against Guangzhou Evergrande.
