Group A of the 2024 Gulf Cup got off to a balanced start with both opening matches ending in 1-1 draws on Saturday.

Oman denied hosts Kuwait a winning start while the United Arab Emirates fought back for a share of the points with Qatar.
Kuwait 1-1 Oman
Kuwait, seeking a record-extending 11th title but first since 2010, took the lead in the 34th minute through Yousef Nasser.

Two-time champions Oman, however, fought back to draw level three minutes before the break through Issam Al Sabhi.
Both teams couldn’t put away their chances after that and had to be satisfied with sharing points.
Qatar 1-1 UAE
Reigning AFC Player of the Year Akram Afif got Qatar off to a fine start, converting from the penalty spot in the 17th minute.
It was just the boost three-time champions Qatar needed, having been defeated 5-0 when the teams met in the AFC Asian Qualifiers™ – Road to 26 in November.

UAE, whose last of two Gulf Cup titles was won in 2013, refused to concede defeat and drew level through Yahya Al Ghassani a minute into time added on at the end of the first half.
Qatar face Oman next on Tuesday while UAE play Kuwait. Group B action on Sunday will see Yemen taking on Saudi Arabia while defending champions Iraq meet Bahrain.
