Impressive DPR Korea stay on track

Austria gave it their best shot but it wasn't enough as DPR Korea powered to a 5-2 win in their FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Colombia 2024 Round of 16 tie on Thursday.

Up next for the two-time champions are Brazil, who booked their quarter-final spot with a 3-1 defeat of Cameroon Wednesday.

The reigning AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup champions took only three minutes to get going as Sin Hyang sent a rocket into the far corner of the Austrian goal from a corner that was played short.
Tournament debutants Austria struck back just eight minutes later through a thumping header from Valentina Maedl.
The European side, however, suffered a blow when Nicole Ojukwu was shown a second yellow just shy of the half hour.
DPR Korea took advantage of the extra player not long after, some rapid-fire passing finding Sin inside the box, as she swept home from near the penalty spot to send the East Asian side to the break 2-1 to the good.
They went further ahead eight minutes after the restart as Kim Kang Mi bundled home from close range only for 10-woman Austria to again peg them back as a deep free-kick saw Han Hong Ryon nod into her own goal.

A fine solo effort from Chae Un Yong made it four with just over a quarter of an hour to play as she burst into open space, past a couple of Austrian challenges and fired past Mariella El Sherif.
Pak Mi Ryong then made it five for the evening – and 23 for the tournament – for this fantastic DPR Korea side as she strode unchallenged towards goal, with a tidy finish capping off another eye-catching win.
They meet Brazil, seeking to lift the title for the first time, on Sunday.
