The Palmeiras goalkeeper denied Boca Juniors repeatedly in a 0-0 draw in the first leg of their Copa Libertadores semi-final.
Boca Juniors, despite registering 18 shots, were unable to made the breakthrough in a goalless draw with Palmeiras at La Bombonera in the first leg of their Copa Libertadores semi-final. The teams will meet at Allianz Parque next week to determine which one reaches the Maracana final. Without the injured Dudu, Abel Ferreira elected to field Arthur and Rony up front, and the former had the game’s first chance, cleverly cutting inside his man but firing the ball straight at Sergio Romero. As the half wore on, however, Boca began to take control. Edinson Cavani headed wide twice, while Miguel Merentiel, playing against his former club, was twice denied by Weverton. After the break, the Palmeiras goalkeeper frustrated Frank Fabra and Valentin Barco. Late on substitute Dario Benedetto was presented with a good chance, but misdirected his header.
